About Hao Fluent

Bridging the communication gap between generations.

The Origin Story

Hao Fluent was built to solve a common challenge in bilingual families: expressing exactly what you mean to older generations, but lacking the specific vocabulary or cultural nuance to do it politely.

The tool also helps with older-to-young communication, and young-to-young interactions—like talking to a new classmate at school. Whether it's thanking a grandparent for a red envelope, an elder encouraging a child, or simply telling family you miss them, Hao Fluent helps you find the right words.

It translates English phrases into polite, classroom-appropriate Chinese, complete with pinyin and audio, so you can communicate with confidence and respect.

Classroom-Safe & Polite

Not all translation apps are built with family dynamics or school settings in mind. Hao Fluent is designed from the ground up to be culturally sensitive and classroom-appropriate.

Our underlying AI is strictly prompted to ensure that every translation is polite, respectful, and safe for young learners. We prioritize the kind of language you would use when speaking to a respected elder or a teacher.

The Team

Hao Fluent is an independent project authored by Anthony Wu. His prior work includes serving as a Principal Engineer on the Apple Education Platform and as a Trust and Safety Platform Engineer at YouTube. The app serves as a free educational tool to help the community.

The application is proudly hosted on Ploy, and the translation engine is powered by models from Google AI Studio and OpenRouter.
